Capacity Building Support
At Porchlight, our Capacity Building supports are designed to help NDIS participants living with psychosocial disability develop the skills, confidence, and resilience needed to live meaningful and self-directed lives. We recognise that recovery is a personal journey, and our role is to work alongside participants to build on their strengths, increase independence, and support them to achieve their individual goals.
Our approach is grounded in recovery-oriented practice, which focuses on hope, choice, empowerment, inclusion, and building capacity rather than dependency. We support participants to develop practical skills, navigate life's challenges, strengthen community connections, and increase their ability to manage everyday responsibilities independently.
Through mentoring, coaching, skill development, and practical support, Porchlight assists participants to build their confidence and capacity across all areas of life, including community participation, social relationships, education, employment, housing, health, and daily living.

Building Independence Through Recovery
At Porchlight, capacity building is not simply about teaching skills. It is about helping participants recognise their strengths, build confidence in their abilities, and develop the tools they need to live the life they choose.
We work collaboratively with participants to identify goals that are meaningful to them and support gradual progress towards increased independence. Success may look different for each person, whether it is catching public transport independently, managing a household routine, forming social connections, returning to study, gaining employment, or becoming more actively involved in the community.
By focusing on strengths, choice, and practical skill development, Porchlight supports participants to build capacity, enhance wellbeing, increase community participation, and achieve sustainable outcomes that contribute to long-term independence and recovery.
